Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to learn on Purple Edge. We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA in the web app, and parts of it (colour contrast, focus, keyboard use) are checked by our automated tests. We do not claim full conformance yet.
Known exception: the remote lab console
A lab machine's desktop or terminal is shown through a remote desktop console. It is a picture of a remote screen, so a screen reader cannot read what is on it, and it does not meet WCAG. The console's own menu opens from the keyboard but its controls need a mouse.
- The console opens in a new tab and sends your keyboard to the lab machine. To leave it, use your browser's keys: Ctrl+Tab switches tab, Ctrl+W closes it. Ctrl+Alt+Shift opens the console's own menu, but its controls need a mouse.
- The desktop and terminal console opens in its own browser tab, so the rest of Purple Edge stays usable with your keyboard and screen reader.
- An Android device lab is different: Open device shows the device's screen in a dialog on the same page. That screen is also a picture of a remote screen. Escape or the dialog's Close button takes you back to the lab.
- Where a lab offers a VPN, you can reach its machines from your own tools instead of the console.
